The Niceties, Portland Stage Company

Alexis is an Actor, Director, and Artist-Activist from Arizona, now based in Chicago.

Alexis is an alumnus of Arizona State University where she received her BA in Theatre Arts with a minor in Communication. While at Arizona State, Alexis began her journey into community engagement and arts activism working for ASU Gammage's Cultural Participation Department. She acted in Binary Theatre company's production of Susan and the Scissor Women as well as a studio production of Drones for the ASU Mainstage. She also performed outside of the university in the Black Theatre Troupe's productions of Coming of the Hurricane (Kazarah) and A Song For Coretta (Lt. Gwen Johnson). For her culminating senior project, Alexis created, produced and acted in The ASU Black Theatre Festival, which included four productions spanning over the full month of February and featured around 50 local theatre artists and students.

In 2017, Alexis received her MFA in Acting from Brown University/Trinity Rep. While at Brown/Trinity (and even long before), Alexis developed a passion for telling the stories of those intentionally historically excluded, creating and facilitating spaces for questions and conversation, and always being in service of others through art. It is with this passion that Alexis is proud to say that she led the evolution of Brown/Trinity’s equity, diversity and inclusion efforts eventually resulting in the now tuition-free program.

Alexis acted in several productions while at Brown/Trinity in productions of The Crucible (Rebecca Nurse/Tituba), The Tempest (Miranda), and Our Country's Good (Liz Morden). She performed in Trinity Repertory Company's Blues For Mister Charlie (Mother Henry/Lorenzo) and To Kill A Mockingbird (Mayella Ewell). During her final year, she conceived and directed a devised piece called Alarum to address the rise in violence and fear after several incidents in the summer of 2016, including the murders of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling and the Pulse nightclub shooting. Alexis concluded her time at Brown with her one-woman thesis show, which was an adaptation of Lydia Diamond's The Inside. A recording of that performance can be found here.

Since receiving her MFA, Alexis has worked all over the country with The Williams Project, Black Theatre Troupe, Portland Stage, Bread Loaf School of English, The Gift Theatre, First Flight, and Raven Theatre. Her most recent credits include Sybil Chase in Private Lives (Raven Theatre); Madame Defarge in A Tale of Two Cities (Bread Loaf School of English); and Zoe in The Niceties (Portland Stage).

In February 2019, Alexis directed good friday by Krisitana Rae Colón for ASU School of Theatre, Film, and Dance in Tempe, Arizona. She then received the Lillian Chason Directing Fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill in 2020 and directed By The Way, Meet Vera Stark by Lynn Nottage.

Alexis currently serves on the board of Notch Theatre Company as the EDIA/Justice Committee Chair. She also works full-time as the Director of Programs for artEquity where she leads several national programs serving arts institutions, leaders, and field-changers.

Alexis is represented by Big Mouth Talent.
